December Meeting

December 13, 2008

For our December meeting (on Saturday the 13th), it seems appropriate to have some sort of Winter Holiday party. The “time” has been listed as “all day” since time will depend on how much “party” we’d actually like to do. Should this be an evening event?

There are plenty of winter holidays besides Christmas, Hannukkah, and the traditional favorites. Traditionally, the celebration of Winter was based around the idea of the Winter Solstice, when the day is at its shortest (winter months were historically hard for agrarian societies in the Northern hemispheres) — and the idea that with the new year brings hope for things to come, as the days begin to get longer.

Winter Solstice occurs on December 23rd, but I’m sure the days won’t mind if we celebrate a little early, or at the very least discuss ways you and your families can celebrate the fun things about Christmas free of the religious overtones.

If you have some suggestions for location and time, please comment them below! (If you don’t see a comment box, click on the title of this post - that should show it)
